Our picnic turned in to an all-afternoon romp through fields of gold, purple, and periwinkle blooms, as well as hours of imaginative play for the kids who climbed trees, gleefully ran amuck, and collected sticks & pebbles to their hearts' content -- while the adults laughed and noshed and sipped wine with endless gratitude in our hearts for the good fortune of sharing such a lovely day together. It really was a magical afternoon that felt a bit like an homage to the centuries of tribes (not unlike our little band of gypsies...) who have been marking this day with ceremony and feasts since the beginning of humanity.
Here's what we feasted on:
Grass-fed Roast Beef Sandwiches with rosemary aioli & micro greens on brioche
Roasted Spring Vegetable Sandwich
with roasted garlic aioli & pepper jack cheese, on herbed ciabatta roll
Roasted New Potato Salad
with capers, stone ground mustard aioli & fresh herbs
with caramelized onion dip
Fresh-Squeezed Strawberry & Meyer Lemonade
Devils Food Cupcakes
with Chocolate Frosting
Flora & Fauna's Traditional Banana Pudding
